A recent report from CSO Online highlighting the current state of compensation for top cybersecurity talent shows that there are remarkable opportunities for CISOs who are willing to evolve their capabilities.
Research conducted by security analysis firm IANS, in collaboration with headhunting firm Artico, shows that the tops 25% of earners in cybersecurity now receive an average cash compensation of approximately $523,000 per year, with the total compensation reaching around $640,000 when including equity.
Perhaps as importantly, elite Cybersecurity Leaders are increasingly being invited to integrate cybersecurity strategies with broader organizations goals - earning CISO's a "seat at the table."
The IANS/Artico report underscores the fact that aligning cybersecurity efforts with the organization's broader needs is key to joining the CISO Elite.
Dr. JT Kostman is regarded by peers, the press, and professional associations as being one of the world's leading experts in the practical applications of frontier technologies. A highly sought-after speaker, advisor, and teacher, JT has earned a reputation for demystifying the intersections between technology and psychology to develop practical, actionable, cost-efficient, data-driven solutions.
In the public sector, JT has hunted terrorists for U.S. Intelligence Agencies, tracked criminal networks for the FBI, advised on analytic strategies for the Department of Defense, and led social media analysis for the 2012 Obama Campaign. In his earlier life, he served as a paramedic, police officer, deep-sea rescue diver, and as a team leader with the U.S. Army Special Forces.
In the corporate sector, JT led the development of industry-changing solutions while serving as Chief Data Officer and a member of the Executive Committee for Time Inc., as Chief Data Scientist for Samsung, and as an advisor to companies and countries around the world. He has guided substantial investments in frontier technologies while serving as a Board Member of a PE/VC fund and as an advisor to numerous hedge funds, family offices, and institutional investors.
In the marketplace of ideas, JT has become one of the most prolific, prescient, and valued voices on the near-term impact of AI and frontier technologies. The keynotes, presentations, press interviews, and insights he has shared with audiences around the world have contributed to making him a go-to expert for organizations including The National Association of Corporate Directors, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the United Nations Security Council, U.S. Government Agencies, and dozens of others.
A highly regarded speaker and teacher, JT studied pedagogical theory while an undergrad, trained in using the Case Method at Harvard Business School, attended dozens of teaching seminars, and earned several teaching fellowships in the course of his graduate and post-doc education. He received the highest student ratings attainable on several occasions while teaching undergraduate, graduate, MBA/MS capstone courses, and executive education courses at the City University of New York, Baruch College, UConn Storrs, Manhattanville College, and Rutgers University. While working with the US Intelligence Community (USIC), JT developed and taught several in-house courses. He also served as an instructor at the Nevada State Police Academy and as a Paramedic Preceptor.
Dr. Kostman’s teaching takes a "from the trenches" realpolitik perspective that has been informed as much by his experiences in the Executive Suites, where he served as a CXO and Board Member, as from having grown up alone and homeless on the streets of New York – where he earned his first honorary degree, from the School of Hard Knocks.
